Kadapa: YS Sowbhagya Reddy, wife of the late former minister YS Vivekananda Reddy, murdered in 2019, wrote to Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, questioning his selection of candidate for the Kadapa Lok Sabha seat.
In her letter, Sowbhagya reminded YS Jagan Mohan Reddy of the pain he experienced when his father, Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy, passed away, highlighting the similar suffering her daughter Suneetha has endured since 2019.
Jagan Mohan Reddy has nominated his cousin and current MP YS Avinash Reddy as the YSR Congress Party candidate for the Kadapa Lok Sabha seat, despite Avinash being named as the eighth accused in Vivekananda Reddy’s murder case by the CBI last year.
Expressing her distress, Sowbhagya wrote, “It was YS Vivekananda Reddy, who wished to see you as chief minister. But your newspaper, news channel, and social media supporters are tarnishing his image. Is this justified?”
“Your sister Suneetha (and YS Sharmila for supporting her) are subjected to ridicule and harassment by your supporters daily. Your silence on this matter is concerning.”
“As the chief minister, isn’t it your responsibility to take necessary action?”
“Now that the alleged murderer of your uncle has filed nomination papers, I write to you as a last resort. I urge you to uphold law and justice.”
Jagan Mohan Reddy’s sister, YS Sharmila Reddy, is contesting from Kadapa as a Congress candidate, with Suneetha Reddy supporting her. Both have criticized Jagan for allegedly protecting the murder accused and promoting a culture of violence.
Vivekananda Reddy, brother of YS Rajasekhara Reddy and uncle of Jagan Mohan Reddy, was murdered at his Pulivendula residence on March 15, 2019, just before the elections. The CBI suggested a conspiracy behind his murder, as he opposed the YSRCP’s decision to field Avinash Reddy for the Kadapa Lok Sabha seat, preferring Sharmila or YS Vijayamma instead.
