Thiruvananthapuram, May 8: The film industry mourns the loss of esteemed director, Sangeeth Sivan, aged 61, who breathed his last at a private hospital in Mumbai on Wednesday after battling illness for some time.
Sangeeth belonged to a distinguished family in the film fraternity, being the elder sibling of renowned cinematographer and director, Santosh Sivan, and filmmaker Sanjeev Sivan. Their father, Sivam, himself a National Award-winning personality in cinema, had passed away a few years prior.
Sangeeth embarked on his cinematic journey initially as an assistant to his father, eventually venturing into the domain as a writer and executive producer with the Hindi film ‘Raakh’ (1989).
His directorial prowess shone through in his second venture, ‘Yoddha’ (1992), which emerged as a monumental success in Malayalam cinema.
Following his success in Malayalam cinema, Sangeeth transitioned to Mumbai, where he helmed seven Hindi films and several web series, leaving an indelible mark on Bollywood. Some of his notable works include ‘Chura Liyaa Hai Tumne’, ‘Kyaa Kool Hai Hum’, ‘Apna Sapna Money Money’, and ‘Yamla Pagla Deewana 2’, among others.
