Professors Suspended for Allowing ‘Jai Shri Ram’ Answers in Exams at UP University: Two professors from Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal University in Jaunpur have been suspended for allegedly accepting bribes from students in exchange for marks on answer sheets filled with songs, music, and religious slogans.
The suspension came after an RTI inquiry revealed that four students had allegedly passed exams with a 56% score by writing ‘Jai Shri Ram’ and the names of Indian cricket team players in several answers.
Vice-Chancellor Dr. Vandana Singh stated that the university’s examination committee found Dr. Ashutosh Gupta and Dr. Vinay Verma guilty of improper evaluation during a meeting on Wednesday.
Disciplinary action has been initiated against them, pending final approval from the Executive Council.
An investigation is also underway regarding the allegation of the professors extorting money from the four first-year students.
The issue surfaced when Divyanshu Singh, a former student, filed an RTI request in August 2023, seeking information about students passing tests despite providing incorrect answers.
According to the RTI response, students had inserted ‘Jai Shri Ram’ and the names of Indian cricketers like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Hardik Pandya in their answers.
