Uttar Pradesh’s Chief Minister and prominent BJP figure, Yogi Adityanath, has once again voiced his concerns regarding the Congress party’s manifesto for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Adityanath accused the Congress of advocating for the legalization of beef consumption if they were to come into power. He pointed fingers at the opposition India alliance, alleging their endorsement of beef consumption. Adityanath emphasized the sacred status of cows in Hindu society and highlighted the widespread rejection of beef consumption within it. He criticized the Congress’s proposal to grant exceptions to Muslims on this matter, deeming it unacceptable to the broader population.
Addressing the media on Saturday during his election campaign, Yogi Adityanath reiterated his stance on the issue of beef consumption, which he had previously raised during an election rally held on Friday. He asserted that the Congress party’s agenda includes granting minorities the right to consume beef. Adityanath underscored the existing stringent laws in Uttar Pradesh concerning animal slaughter, which entail penalties of up to 10 years’ imprisonment and fines of up to Rs 5 lakh. Notably, the Uttar Pradesh government enacted an ordinance in 2020 prohibiting cow slaughter, subsequently converting it into law.
