The ongoing heatwave in Maharashtra, including Pune, is expected to ease slightly in the coming days, with light rain and thunderstorms forecasted from May 12 to 14. IMD’s national forecast predicts thunderstorms with gusty winds at isolated places across various regions, including Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada, on May 12.
Recently, heavy rains hit Pune due to a cyclonic circulation over the northeast Arabian Sea and adjoining Gujarat region. While the upcoming showers may not be heavy, they are anticipated to provide much-needed relief from the soaring temperatures. The rain is likely to marginally decrease temperatures, which have already dropped below 40°C in some parts of the city due to increased moisture and cloud cover.
In other parts of the country, Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 27.7 degrees celsius, three notches above the season’s average. The humidity level was recorded at 64% at 8:30 am.
The IMD also mentions cyclonic circulations over north Bihar and northeast Assam, bringing scattered to fairly widespread rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and squally winds over West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha from May 10 to May 14, 2024.
