Hari, known for his expertise in mass films, collaborates with Vishal for the action-packed thriller Rathnam. With previous successes like “Bharani” and “Pooja,” expectations are high for their latest venture.
Story:
Rathnam (Vishal) is a trusted aide of Chittoor MLA Panneer Swamy (Samuthirakani). Engulfed in constant conflicts, Rathnam’s life takes a turn when he encounters Mallika (Priya Bhavani Shankar) being targeted by unknown assailants. Determined to protect her, Rathnam delves into a dangerous web of intrigue. Who are these assailants? What motivates their pursuit of Mallika? Rathnam’s quest for answers forms the crux of the story.
Plus Points:
Vishal’s commanding presence and stellar performance anchor the film, particularly shining in action sequences. The movie boasts well-executed action sequences and a memorable soundtrack by Devi Sri Prasad.
Minus Points:
Despite Hari’s signature style, “Rathnam” falters in engaging narration, resulting in pacing issues and a lack of entertainment. The second half, dominated by action, lacks the necessary emotional depth. Yogi Babu’s comedic potential remains underutilized.
Technical Aspects:
Devi Sri Prasad’s music enhances the film’s impact, complemented by Sukumar’s cinematography. However, editing falls short, contributing to the film’s overall pacing issues.
Verdict:
“Rathnam” falls short of expectations, lacking emotional depth and engaging narration. While Vishal delivers a commendable performance, the film’s pacing and lack of entertainment hinder its overall impact. Consider exploring alternative options for weekend viewing.
