Two Malayalam movies, “Premalu” and “Aavesham,” created a big buzz in Kerala, becoming blockbusters and grossing over ₹100 crore at the box office. However, when these films were released on OTT platforms for Telugu viewers, the reception wasn’t as enthusiastic.
Telugu audiences took to social media to express their disappointment with the films. Many questioned the hype surrounding “Premalu,” particularly its reliance on silly comedy and familiar scenarios. Similarly, “Aavesham” failed to impress some viewers, with comparisons drawn to typical comedy sequences found in Telugu movies. Overall, a sentiment emerged that these films were overrated.
Beyond the lack of a strong storyline, Telugu viewers felt the storytelling in both movies fell short. They criticized the films for failing to captivate the audience and lacking any groundbreaking elements. While the acting was considered decent, it wasn’t considered exceptional by most viewers. While these movies were commercially successful in Kerala, it’s clear they haven’t resonated as strongly with Telugu audiences on streaming platforms.
