Karan Johar, the mastermind behind iconic films like “Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani” isn’t laughing. The director took to Instagram this weekend to express his disappointment with a recent comedic impersonation, calling it “exceptionally poor taste.”
While Johar remained tight-lipped about the comedian’s identity, his frustration was palpable. He vented about the prevalence of self-deprecating humor within the industry, suggesting it erodes respect for its members.
“There I was, chilling with mom ” Johar wrote “when a promo for some reality comedy show on a supposedly respectable channel pops up. And there it was a comedian butchering an impersonation of me. In the worst way possible”
Johar went on to express his disillusionment. “Trolls do this kind of stuff all the time,” he said It’s faceless, nameless negativity. But when it comes from within your own industry, from someone who should understand the business (I’ve been in it over 25 years!) it’s just sad.”
The director concluded by highlighting his upcoming projects, including “Mr. & Mrs. Mahi” “Kill” and “Jigra” hinting that his creative wellspring remains unaffected. This might be a case of Johar seeking to deflect with productivity, or perhaps a subtle message that his focus remains firmly on filmmaking.
One thing’s for sure while the comedian’s impersonation might have landed with a thud, Johar isn’t letting it derail his directorial momentum.
