Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah made a firm statement on Friday regarding Prajwal Revanna, the sitting JD(S) MP and grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, who is embroiled in a sex videos scandal. CM Siddaramaiah declared that Prajwal Revanna, the prime accused in the case, is being accused of rape.
Siddaramaiah emphasized that efforts are underway to arrest Prajwal Revanna, regardless of his location, and bring him back to India. Speaking in Bagalkot, Siddaramaiah clarified that the case against Prajwal Revanna is not merely about sexual harassment but involves allegations of rape.
He further stressed the credibility of the victim’s testimony, highlighting the seriousness of the crime. The victim, a married woman, has reportedly accused Prajwal Revanna of rape, a claim Siddaramaiah asserts cannot be taken lightly.
According to sources, following the victim’s statement recorded under CrPC Section 164 before the 32nd Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court in Bengaluru, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) has filed charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including rape, criminal intimidation, and other related offenses.
The SIT is actively pursuing the case, with plans to issue a third notice to Revanna. Searches have been conducted at properties linked to Revanna and his father, JD(S) MLA HD Revanna, where the alleged sexual assaults reportedly took place. There are indications that authorities might also proceed with property seizures.
Prajwal Revanna, who is the NDA’s Lok Sabha candidate for Hassan, is currently reported to be abroad and is evading authorities. His request for time to appear before the court has been denied by the SIT. The circulation of obscene videos allegedly involving Prajwal Revanna has stirred significant controversy in Karnataka’s political circles.
