The Assembly and Parliament elections held in Andhra Pradesh in 2024 have become a major topic of discussion across the country. The primary reason for this is the violence that erupted on polling day. At several polling stations in AP, YCP and alliance leaders clashed, leading to attacks on each other. Many people were injured in these skirmishes. In some locations, EVM machines were destroyed, disrupting polling in those areas. In other places, polling had to be stopped entirely. The elections in AP concluded chaotically.
The Election Commission has taken serious note of the violence that occurred during the elections in AP. Summons were issued to CS Jawahar Reddy and DGP Harish Kumar Gupta. The Election Commission appears to believe that the DGP and CS failed to prevent the post-election violence in AP. Consequently, orders have been issued for these two officers to provide a personal explanation regarding the ongoing violence. They have been instructed to come to Delhi. Following this, CS Jawahar Reddy and DGP Harish Kumar Gupta left for Delhi. Today, they will meet with the Central Election Commission to report on the post-polling events in AP.
Meanwhile, Chief Electoral Officer Mukesh Kumar Meena announced that those responsible for the riots in AP will be arrested within two days. Strict action will be taken against negligent police officers. It has been made clear that individuals who vandalize EVMs will be sent to jail. He also mentioned that police pickets are continuing in 715 areas. Representatives of the parties can stay near the strong rooms 24 hours a day.
