Bajaj Auto's NS400Z, the largest Pulsar motorcycle yet, positioned for power and performance.

Bajaj Auto is revving up its product lineup with the introduction of what it terms as the ‘biggest’ addition to its Pulsar NS400Z, positioned as a “performance-centric design. This mid-range motorcycle, now available for purchase in the country, comes with an introductory price tag of Rs 1.85 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

The company, headquartered in Pune, has specified that this price is a limited-time offer valid for a month, with deliveries scheduled to commence in the first week of June. Bookings are currently open for a token amount of Rs 5,000. The Pulsar  NS400Z, touted as the largest Pulsar yet, will compete against rivals such as the Triumph Speed 400, KTM 390 Duke, and the upcoming Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450.

Rajiv Bajaj, MD of Bajaj Auto, remarked, “Pulsar instigated the shift towards sports motorcycles in India,” during the unveiling of the model. He added, “This is the opportune moment to introduce what we believe is the ‘biggest’ Pulsar to date.”

Equipped with a 373cc liquid-cooled engine paired with a six-speed gearbox, delivering 40 PS power and 35 Nm torque, the NS400Z boasts a ride-by-wire electronic throttle system with four ride modes – Road, Rain, Sports, and Offroad – to optimize performance. The high-powered Pulsar is claimed to achieve a top speed of 154 km/h.

Bajaj emphasized that the Pulsar range has been a cornerstone of the company’s portfolio for over 24 years, with sales of 1.8 crore units over two decades. He noted, “Given the robust brand presence of Pulsar, investment isn’t a concern, but perhaps we could have introduced it a tad earlier to the market.”

The new Pulsar is available in four color variants: Glossy Racing Red, Brooklyn Black, Pearl Metallic White, and Pewter Grey. It features full LED lighting, a digital instrument cluster with a dedicated display for turn-by-turn navigation, and Bluetooth connectivity.

During the product launch, Bajaj Auto unveiled enhancements to the new Pulsar, including an LCD display, lap timer, traction control, and an advanced braking system (ABS).

Sarang Kanade, President – Motorcycle Business, Bajaj Auto, stated, “The Pulsar NS400Z is an ideal motorcycle for riders entering the biking realm or seeking an upgrade to a higher-capacity bike.”

In a recent conversation with Moneycontrol, Bajaj Auto expressed its aim to attract a new set of buyers with the new Pulsar.

Rakesh Sharma, ED, Bajaj Auto, commented, “The new Pulsar will stand out from the Triumph modern classics and will be more of a potent, high-performance street bike aimed at delivering an exhilarating riding experience. Additionally, we anticipate a significant number of Pulsar 125-250cc owners looking to transition to a higher-powered Pulsar.”

Bajaj Auto shared statistics during the launch event, underscoring Pulsar’s formidable legacy, with 1.8 crore units sold to date, generating Rs 10,000 crore in revenue for the company since its 2021 debut.

The Pulsar has undergone regular upgrades over the years by Bajaj Auto, staying abreast of evolving trends. It remains one of Bajaj’s top-selling models worldwide, with the brand witnessing a 33 percent growth in FY23 and annual sales of over 10 lakh units in the domestic motorcycle market.

Bajaj’s Pulsar lineup spans the 125cc and 150cc segments, registering YoY growth rates of 20 percent and 27 percent, respectively, in FY23. The company has ambitious plans for bike launches this year, unveiling six new models in H1FY25, starting with the NS400 Pulsar.

Bajaj hinted at further developments in the pipeline, stating, “The ‘Z’ in Pulsar NS400Zsuggests that there’s more to come very soon.”

Bajaj Auto’s shares have surged by 33 percent since January and nearly doubled over the past 12 months, outperforming competitors such as Hero MotoCorp and Eicher Motors over the same period.
