Hyderabad is abuzz with activity as the elections for the Lok Sabha and Assembly in Andhra Pradesh approach on May 13, coinciding with those in Telangana. This presents a lucrative opportunity for private travel agencies as thousands of individuals of Andhra Pradesh origin are gearing up to journey back to their native places to exercise their voting rights.
Anticipating the surge in demand, travel agencies have swiftly adjusted their fares, with rates soaring to Rs 2,000 starting from May 11, the onset of the long weekend preceding the elections. Various private travel agencies have listed their fares on online platforms, ranging from Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,000.
However, amidst the hustle and bustle, concerns have been raised by Telangana politicians regarding the potential impact of this mass exodus on voter turnout in the state. It is estimated that around 12 lakh residents hailing from Andhra and Rayalaseema regions in Hyderabad will journey to Andhra Pradesh to participate in the elections of the neighboring state.
For many, the timing couldn’t be more opportune. Employees of IT companies originating from Andhra Pradesh are poised to enjoy a three-day holiday stretch, spanning from May 11 (Saturday) to May 13 (polling day). Those unable to secure a Saturday off are strategizing to commence their travels on that day itself.
