YSRCP Accused of Receiving Kickbacks in Infrastructure Projects

The “Holier than Thou” mask of YSRCP seems to be coming off. Recently, the BJP cadre in Andhra Pradesh has alleged that the incumbent government is indulging in misuse of power to illegally amass wealth.

BJP has accused CM Jagan of receiving kickbacks in the deals concerning large infrastructure projects. The party leaders have claimed that Jagan had pocketed thousands of crores of public money by renegotiating the terms of these projects.

The projects in question are - Bhogapuram airport with GMR, Integrated Renewable Energy Project (IREP) with the Greenko Group, and the Polavaram hydroelectric project with Navayuga. These projects took shape during the previous TDP rule.

When they were in opposition, YSRCP raised corruption charges against the erstwhile TDP government concerning the Bhogapuram and Polavaram project.

In July 2019, the YSRCP government announced its intentions to cancel the land allotted to the Greenko Group’s hybrid renewable energy project. However, they gave a nod to Greenko Group last week. Defending their move, the YSRCP said renegotiating the project terms with Greenko saved Rs. 3,495 crores to the state exchequer.

Given all this, TDP says that it stands vindicated of all the corruption allegations leveled against them by YSRCP.
