In Andhra Pradesh, the BJP is treading cautiously, taking a low-key approach to politics. Despite being given 10 assembly seats and 6 MP seats as part of a three-party alliance, the party’s central leadership and state officials show little interest in campaigning on the ground. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech in Chilakaluripet a month ago stands as a rarity in this trend.
A significant number of BJP contenders have defected from the TDP in this election cycle, indicating a shift in political allegiances. The TDP’s single defeat after the 2019 elections has forced it into an alliance with the BJP once again. Meanwhile, the YCP-led government has shown a pro-BJP strategy in various aspects from 2019 onwards, indicating a willingness to work in a non-partisan manner.
Believing in post-poll support, the BJP is refraining from direct intervention in Andhra Pradesh politics. Regardless of the outcome of the 2024 elections, the party hopes to have the support of the winning party. Therefore, the BJP is taking a cautious stance instead of actively intervening in national politics.
