BRS leader meets Revanth Reddy: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC and former minister P. Mahender Reddy, accompanied by his wife and Vikarabad Zilla Parishad Chairperson Sunita, paid a visit to Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Thursday. There are strong indications that Mahender Reddy will align with the Congress party and vie for a seat in the Lok Sabha from the Chevella constituency.
The couple, along with Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha and party leader Rohin Reddy, visited the Chief Minister’s residence. Mahender Reddy was appointed as a minister by then Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao in August last year, just three months before the Assembly elections. His appointment was aimed at appeasing him, as he was anticipating a party ticket to contest the upcoming Assembly elections from the Tandur constituency.
The leadership of BRS also orchestrated a reconciliation between Mahender Reddy and then-Tandur MLA Rohit Reddy, ending a simmering feud that began when Rohit Reddy defected to BRS a few months after being elected from Tandur as a Congress candidate in 2018.
Prior to joining BRS, Mahender Reddy had a stint with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), during which he served as a minister between 2014 and 2018 in the first BRS government. He represented Tandur as an MLA in 1994, 1998, and 2009 on a TDP ticket. He joined BRS before the 2014 elections and won from Tandur. However, he lost the 2018 election to Congress’s Rohit Reddy. In 2019, BRS nominated him as a member of the Legislative Council, and he was re-elected to the Council from the local body authorities constituency in 2021.
Meanwhile, Mahender Reddy’s brother and former MLA, P. Narender Reddy, stated that before the Assembly elections, Mahender Reddy had discussed the possibility of joining Congress with him, but he had declined. He emphasized his commitment to remaining with BRS. Narender Reddy lost to Revanth Reddy from the Kodangal constituency in the recent elections. He had previously defeated the Congress leader from the same constituency in 2018.
