Suryapet Bids Tearful Adieu to Martyr

Colonel Santosh Babu who was martyred in Gwalan valley faceoff by Chineese army was cremated with the highest honors in his hometown. His last rites were conducted in his farm land of kesaram. Colonel Santosh Babu hails from Kesaram a village near Surayapet town. It was an emotional moment for everyone present. The moment was marked by singing patriotic songs and remembering the local man with fondness.

The funeral procession which started from Colonel’s house in Vidyanagar(Suryapet) covered the areas of vilas center,MG road,Raithu Bazaar, old bus stand, court premises, and SP office. People showered the martyrs body with flower petals from their own homes. And People kept joining the procession as it proceeded. A few attendants were seen carrying national flags. Around 2 PM in the afternoon, 16-Bihar regiment team fired bullets thrice in the air as a show of respect. His family members and his parents, son and a wife then saluted the body. The entire event happened in a highly disciplined manner, by following proper norms of social distancing.

As a mark of solidarity and respect, business men in suryapet kept their shops and other set ups closed. The event was attended by prominent politicians across all parties who paid tribute to the son of Telangana. Congress leader Komatireddy Venkatreddy opined that it is a pride moment that Colonel Santosh Babu hails from Nalgonda. He also requested the government to provide the family with two crore compensation, a group one posting to one family member and six hundred square yards of land in Hyderabad.
