Sonu Jaglan, the 23-year-old raider for Gujarat Giants in Season 10 of Pro Kabaddi, has been a standout performer. His remarkable start included four consecutive Super 10 performances, showcasing his agility and speed on the mat. Standing tall at over six feet, Jaglan defies the typical broad-shouldered image of kabaddi raiders.
His coach, Ram Mehar Singh, emphasizes Jaglan game-changing abilities and describes him as an all-rounder crucial for the team. Singh, a veteran of the Indian Air Force, recognized Jaglan’s talent during a Haryana-state tournament, inviting him to join the Air Force team.
Jaglan, hailing from Panipat in Haryana, has a farming background and was inspired to pursue kabaddi by watching seniors in his village. Joining the Indian Air Force, he honed his skills in inter-services kabaddi tournaments, specializing in running hand-touch attacks.
Despite a promising debut in 2019, Jaglan faced setbacks due to the Covid-19 pandemic and an ankle fracture during a 2021 training camp. The recovery took a year, with support from both the Services and the Giants.
Under the guidance of coach Ram Mehar Singh, Jaglan has returned stronger, overcoming challenges and showcasing his potential. Despite concerns about the physical demands of the sport, Jaglan’s passion for kabaddi has driven his steady growth and development, proving himself as a valuable asset for the Gujarat Giants.
