Phil Salt and Mitchell Starc created a memorable Bengali New Year celebration for Kolkata Knight Riders fans at Eden Gardens as the hosts thrashed Lucknow Super Giants by xx wickets on Sunday. Starc shone with the ball, claiming 3 for 28, his best figures of the season, while Salt led the charge in the second innings with an unbeaten xx-ball xx. With this victory, KKR now occupies the second spot on the points table, marking a strong start to their five consecutive home games this month.
KKR faced a comfortable target, thanks to the efforts of their spinners during the middle overs. Despite LSG holding wickets in hand, KKR’s spin duo of Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy kept the opposition in check, conceding just 17 and 30 runs respectively in their combined eight overs, at an economy rate of only 5.88 per over.
Although LSG faced defeat, Nicholas Pooran and Mohsin Khan emerged as bright spots for the team. Pooran’s explosive innings from No. 6 saw him smash four sixes and two fours, contributing a valuable 45 off 32 balls to set up a competitive total for LSG. Meanwhile, Mohsin Khan made an impact with the ball, claiming the only two KKR wickets to fall during the powerplay.
