BREAKING: Chahar & Mayank Yadav Out of IPL 2024! Why?

Fast bowlers Deepak Chahar and Mayank Yadav are set to miss the remaining matches of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season due to injuries.

Chahar, a key bowler for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), sustained a hamstring injury during his team’s match against the Punjab Kings on May 1st. CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan expressed concern about the severity of the injury, stating, “Deepak’s injury is not looking good,” but stopped short of ruling him out entirely. This follows comments by CSK head coach Stephen Fleming on May 2nd, who admitted that Chahar’s injury “doesn’t look good” and expressed hope for a positive update from the team’s medical staff.

Chahar’s absence is a significant blow to CSK. Injuries have plagued him in recent years, hindering his chances of securing a permanent spot in the Indian national team.

Meanwhile, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) fast bowler Mayank Yadav was forced to leave the field due to injury after bowling only 3.1 overs in his team’s recent match against the Mumbai Indians on April 30th. According to reports, Yadav is likely to receive a pace bowling contract from the BCCI, which would place him under the supervision of the National Cricket Academy’s (NCA) Sports Science and Medical Team. This would see the NCA take charge of his injury management and fitness program, rather than his IPL franchise.

A source within the BCCI, speaking on condition of anonymity, provided an update on Yadav’s potential return to the IPL this season. The source stated, “Mayank has a tear, but it’s more likely a grade 1 tear. It would be a tight squeeze, but if LSG qualifies for the playoffs, he might just be able to play the knock-out games. However, this is unlikely, and right now he is doubtful for the remaining IPL games.”

Yadav had an impressive start to the IPL season, earning back-to-back ‘Player of the Match’ awards. However, he suffered an injury during the third match, forcing him to sit out for four weeks. Although he passed a fitness test and returned to play against the Mumbai Indians, he was again forced to leave the field after bowling just a few overs.
