Ravi Shankar Prasad Jibe at Rahul Gandhi

As the nation is under the grip of the novel Coronavirus and the entire country is under lockdown. Arogya Setu App was an initiative by the Government to find the red zone in proximity to the resident. The App informed any Covid-19 infected victims who are nearby. The App had been strongly recommended by PM Modi and millions of Indians have downloaded the App. The technology had helped many people and the feedback had been encouraging. Moreover in a country like India where the population density is on a higher side – such technology helps a common man to keep track and be vigilant of any impending danger of infection. Technology irrespective of a political alliance should be respected and endorsed. Unfortunately, political parties irrespective of their ideologies tend to maintain a myopic world-view.

Take for instance Congress President Rahul Gandhi’s tweeted, “The Arogya Setu app, is a sophisticated surveillance system, outsourced to a Pvt operator, with no institutional oversight - raising serious data security & privacy concerns. Technology can help keep us safe, but fear must not be leveraged to track citizens without their consent.”

For which the Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad responded, “Aarogya Setu is now being appreciated globally. The App is NOT outsourced to any private operator. Mr Gandhi really high time that you stop outsourcing your tweets to your cronies who do not understand India."

The two statesmen and their agenda are crystal clear. Rahul Gandhi is trying to create a Nineteen Eighty-Four Orwellian scenario where the big brother is watching. On the other hand, the law minister is showing his reverence and loyalty to a political party with a specific ideology. Nevertheless, in crux, let technology prevail in these trying times.
