During his two day interaction with Chief Ministers and representatives of States and union territories, PM Modi has clarified that there wouldn't be any more lockdowns but only unlock, unlock, unlock.
In the video conference meeting the real issue was to discuss the situation post unlock 1.0 and think about challenges of unlock 2.0, Chief Ministers briefed him about the ground situation and their preparedness to tackle the impact of the virus. They have also informed about the testing equipment, precautions being taken, working conditions of health staff, usage of masks and employment opportunities for the daily labor who have returned to their states etc.,
PM Modi talked about the need to further open the markets while keeping the population safe from infection. He noted that he could see economic indicators which are showing the signs of recovery and revival and business activities should be further increased. He asked the states to take steps to boost infrastructure and construction-related work, which is a normal template of Keynesian economics in recession. He listed steps taken under Atmanirbhar Bharat to provide a fillip to MSMEs, farming and agriculture marketing. He also underscored the need to remain alert to effectively tackle the challenges faced by the migrant laborers in the coming months.
PM also mentioned specifically to fight rumors about the lockdown. In a word of caution, Modi referred to the rise in a number of infections and underscored the need for testing, tracking, tracing and isolating COVID-19 patients to deal with the pandemic.
