Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy urged the Telugu community to join forces despite being scattered across different states. He expressed concern over the limited involvement of Telugus in national politics, attributing this shortfall to the prevalence of part-time politicians.
Revanth Reddy noted that elected representatives often prioritize their personal businesses over their public duties, only engaging with the people briefly. This trend, he suggested, might be a contributing factor to the lack of Telugu representation on the national stage.
Speaking at the unveiling of “Governorpet to Governor House” by former Tamil Nadu Governor and DGP PS Rammohan Rao, Reddy expressed optimism that the book would serve as an engaging political narrative.
He highlighted the historical significance of Telugu leaders like Sanjeeva Reddy, PV Narasimha Rao, and NT Rama Rao in shaping national politics. However, he lamented the absence of such influential figures in contemporary times, leaving Telugus without a prominent voice in the national arena.
Reddy emphasized the need for Telugus to play a significant role in India’s projected 5 trillion economy, advocating for their active participation in decision-making processes.
Despite Telugu being the second most spoken language in India, Reddy observed a disconnect between its influence and representation in national politics.
He recalled a time when there was a balance between North and South Indian politicians in key government positions, a balance that has since been disrupted.
Reddy called upon intellectuals to contemplate solutions to this imbalance, stressing the importance of politicians’ understanding and response to both national and regional issues.
Referencing past instances of political cooperation, such as NT Rama Rao refraining from fielding a rival against PV Narasimha Rao in Nandyal, Reddy underscored the importance of such collaborative approaches. He affirmed the Congress government’s commitment to adopting and promoting such positive practices for the greater good.
