The Delhi High Court has yet to deliver its verdict on Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal challenge against his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in the excise policy case. Arguments were presented by senior advocates representing Kejriwal and the ED, with Kejriwal’s lawyer alleging that the arrest was a move to hinder his political engagements during the model code of conduct period. On the other hand, the ED argued that the investigation is still in its early stages and defended the arrest, asserting Kejriwal’s pivotal role in the alleged scam.
During the hearing, Arvind Kejriwal counsel emphasized that there was insufficient evidence to link him with the alleged proceeds of the crime. Conversely, the ED reiterated its stance, labeling Kejriwal as the main orchestrator of the purported scam. The Chief Minister maintains that his arrest and subsequent remand order were illegal, seeking immediate release from custody. The ED arrested Kejriwal on March 21 after a lengthy interrogation at his official residence in Delhi. The Delhi High Court, earlier, declined interim relief, emphasizing the need for a fair hearing for both parties and adherence to principles of natural justice.
