Kangana Ranaut, the well-known Bollywood actress and current BJP candidate for the Mandi Lok Sabha seat in Himachal Pradesh, recently paid a visit to the revered Buddhist spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, at his residence in McLeodganj.
Accompanied by former Himachal Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, Ranaut expressed her deep admiration for the Dalai Lama, describing the experience as profoundly moving. She remarked, “I think it is exceptional to be in the presence of such a human being who exudes sheer divinity. It was an emotional experience that I will cherish for a lifetime.”
However, Ranaut’s past social media activity came under scrutiny once again. Last year, a tweet featuring an edited photo of the Dalai Lama alongside US President Joe Biden sparked controversy, with many criticizing her for insensitivity towards Buddhist sentiments.
In the upcoming elections, Kangana Ranaut faces tough competition from Congress’ Vikramaditya Singh, son of the late six-time Chief Minister, Virbhadra Singh. The Mandi Lok Sabha seat, previously held by Vikramaditya’s mother and three-time MP, Pratibha Singh, now sees her absence from the electoral arena due to perceived unfavorable ground conditions despite Congress’s stronghold in the state.
