The political landscape in the Rayalaseema region, historically a stronghold of the YSR Congress and its leader YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, has witnessed a significant shift. In the 2019 elections, YCP secured a dominant victory, winning 49 out of 52 assembly seats, while the TDP suffered a humiliating defeat with only 3 seats.
However, the dynamics have changed dramatically in just five years, with the TDP experiencing a remarkable resurgence. Notably, journalist Ravi Prakash predicts that the Telugu Desam Party is poised to win 22 assembly seats in the Rayalaseema region in 2024, marking a 700% improvement from its 2019 performance. This resurgence is particularly noteworthy given the region’s historical allegiance to Jagan Mohan Reddy.
Interestingly, even the Congress party is projected to secure one seat in the Seema region, as per the RTV survey. Contrary to YCP’s claims of Chandrababu Naidu losing in Kuppam, RTV’s projections suggest a comfortable victory for Naidu in this constituency.
While the TDP has made significant gains, the YSR Congress appears to be facing a decline, with a projected loss of nearly 40% of its seats, dropping from 49 to 29. This trend should serve as a warning sign for the YCP, indicating a need for reflection and strategic adjustments.
