Harish Kumar Gupta has taken on the mantle of the new police chief of the state, succeeding KV Rajendranath Reddy, who served as the DGP until yesterday before being transferred by the Election Commission (EC). In a recent development, the EC has issued an order appointing Harish Kumar Gupta as the Andhra Pradesh DGP, with the State CS Jawahar Reddy duly informed.
Following the transfer of KV Rajendranath Reddy, the EC has directed the government to furnish a list of three senior Inspector Generals (IGs). In response, the Andhra Pradesh government has put forward the names of Dwaraka Tirumala Rao, Harish Kumar Gupta, and Madireddy Pratap based on seniority. Subsequently, the Election Commission has chosen Harish Kumar from this list to assume the role of DGP of Andhra Pradesh.
A member of the 1992 batch of the Indian Police Service (IPS), Harish Kumar currently holds the position of Home Secretary. With this latest appointment, the EC has instructed Harish Kumar to assume the responsibilities of DGP without delay.
