During a public gathering in Markapuram, Prakasam district, Chandrababu Naidu, the leader of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), made a significant announcement regarding the welfare of the elderly. Naidu pledged that if his party were to win the upcoming elections, they would introduce a pension scheme providing Rs. 4,000 pension per month, commencing from April onwards. In his address, Naidu took aim at the current Chief Minister, Jagan Mohan Reddy, alleging that under Reddy’s leadership, the pension increment by 2028 would be a mere Rs. 250. This critique underscored TDP’s commitment to championing the cause of the less privileged.
Expressing his dismay at the state government’s management of pension distribution, Chandrababu Naidu accused the Chief Minister of exacerbating the plight of the elderly. He highlighted the inconvenience faced by pensioners who were required to personally collect their pensions from government offices, despite the availability of administrative staff who could facilitate home delivery. Naidu lamented the unnecessary hardships imposed on the elderly, emphasizing the need for a more compassionate approach to governance.
Moreover, Naidu raised concerns about the efficacy of direct bank transfers for pension disbursement, noting the challenges encountered by elderly individuals in accessing their funds. He asserted his personal dedication to ensuring that pensions reach beneficiaries’ doorsteps by the 1st of each month, emphasizing the government’s obligation to prioritize citizens’ convenience and welfare.
