In a significant move during the ongoing Assembly and Lok Sabha elections in Andhra Pradesh, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has thrown his support behind Chief Minister Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy’s YSR Congress Party. Owaisi urged voters in Andhra Pradesh to back YSRCP, hailing CM Jaganmohan Reddy as a secular leader dedicated to safeguarding the rights of SC, ST, BC, and minority communities. These remarks were made by Owaisi during a media interaction in Hyderabad.
Conversely, Owaisi vehemently criticized Nara Chandrababu Naidu, the national president of the Telugu Desam Party, branding him an opportunist lacking credibility. He voiced concerns that a BJP-led NDA victory in Andhra Pradesh would spell the end of reservations for Muslims. Owaisi’s support for YSRCP in the 2019 elections is widely known.
Furthermore, Owaisi reiterated his disapproval of Prime Minister Modi’s remarks regarding the Muslim population’s growth, accusing him of consistently distorting facts about Muslims’ contraceptive practices. Meanwhile, Owaisi is contesting from the Hyderabad Lok Sabha seat, where BJP candidate Madhavi Lata is one of his main rivals. Madhavi Lata has been actively campaigning, employing sharp rhetoric against Owaisi.
