The dynamic Telangana Congress leader and current Minister for Endowments, Women, and Child Welfare, Konda Surekha, is poised to take on a new role as a campaigner for Sharmila, the President of the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee, in the neighboring state’s upcoming assembly elections.
Once a staunch supporter of the late Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy, Konda Surekha later shifted her allegiance to his son, Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy. Following YSR’s demise, she played a pivotal role in organizing a signature campaign advocating for Jagan’s elevation to the Chief Minister’s position.
Surekha spearheaded Jagan’s Odarpu Yatra in certain regions of Telangana, facing opposition from proponents of Telangana during the process. After the formation of the YSR Congress party by Jagan, Surekha, along with her husband Murali, joined the political venture. However, her bid to secure a seat in the assembly elections from Parkal proved unsuccessful.
Subsequently, she distanced herself from Jagan and discreetly parted ways with the YSRCP, limiting her political activities to Warangal district. Although briefly associated with the Bharat Rashtra Samithi, she later re-affiliated herself with the Congress.
Recent reports indicate that Konda Surekha is set to actively campaign for Sharmila’s Congress in the upcoming Andhra Pradesh assembly elections, following directives from the party high command. Sharmila, aggressively targeting her brother Jagan, benefits from Surekha’s past collaboration, bringing an understanding of the intricacies within the YSRCP.
Surekha’s participation is anticipated to significantly influence the political landscape, adding depth to the unfolding dynamics as the assembly elections draw near.
