Visakha Railway Zone: Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav recently announced significant allocations for the development of railways in Andhra Pradesh (AP) and Telangana during the interim budget. According to the minister, a whopping Rs. 9,138 crore have been earmarked for developing railways in Andhra Pradesh, while Telangana is set to receive Rs. 5,071 crores.
One of the key projects in Andhra Pradesh is the establishment of the Visakha Railway Zone. Minister Vaishnav revealed that the AP government has been requested to allocate 53 acres of land for this purpose. Despite the Detailed Project Report (DPR) being ready for the Visakha Railway Zone, the project awaits the allocation of the required land. Once the land is provided, the development of this crucial railway zone can commence.
During a press conference held in Delhi, Minister Vaishnav highlighted the substantial increase in budgetary allocations for the development of railways in Andhra Pradesh compared to the period before the BJP came to power. He noted that from 2009 to 2014, an amount of Rs. 886 crore was allocated for the development of railways in the undivided state of Andhra Pradesh. However, in the current budget, a staggering Rs. 9,138 crore has been earmarked for Andhra Pradesh alone as part of the Union Budget 2024.

Turning attention to Telangana, Minister Vaishnav announced an allocation of Rs. 5,071 crores for railway development in the state. He pointed out that the electrification of railway lines in Telangana has achieved a significant milestone with a completion rate of 100 percent. Moreover, the state has witnessed the construction of 414 flyovers and underpasses at various locations over the past decade, contributing to improved connectivity and efficiency.
The minister acknowledged the heightened focus on railway development in Telangana, emphasizing the completion of electrification works and the construction of crucial infrastructure. Notably, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had laid the foundation stone for the Khajipet Coach Factory in the state, and Minister Vaishnav assured that work on this essential project is progressing as planned.
In conclusion, the interim budget for 2024 reflects the government’s commitment to advancing railway infrastructure in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The substantial allocations indicate a strategic approach to boosting connectivity, promoting sustainability, and enhancing the overall railway network in these states.
