Constable Killed: Red Sanders smugglers allegedly committed a heinous act, resulting in the tragic death of an Armed Reserve constable named Ganesh (30) during a forest check in the Annamayya district. According to RSASTF SP P Srinivas, the incident occurred when a team led by RSI Viswanath attempted to stop a speeding car with Karnataka registration, suspected of carrying red sander logs. In an attempt to evade capture, the vehicle veered off course and struck Ganesh, critically injuring him. Despite being rushed to Pileru government hospital, Ganesh succumbed to his injuries. While two smugglers from Tamil Nadu were apprehended by the Task Force personnel, a third individual managed to escape into the woods.
Following the tragic incident, the task force seized the vehicle and recovered seven red sander logs valued at around Rs 40 lakh. Ganesh, a dedicated AR constable from Puttaparthi village in Sathya Sai district, had recently joined the RSASTF. His untimely demise leaves behind his wife, Anusha, and two children.
Expressing his condolences, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy announced an ex-gratia of Rs 30 lakh for Ganesh’s grieving family. However, concerns and criticisms arose from TDP Pileru spokesperson Nallari Kishore Kumar Reddy, who raised questions about the government’s response to the incident. He criticized the decision to disarm the task force responsible for combating smuggling and questioned the administration’s dedication to apprehending those responsible for Ganesh’s death.
The loss of Ganesh serves as a stark reminder of the dangers faced by law enforcement personnel in their line of duty, particularly in regions prone to illegal activities such as Red Sanders trafficking. The government’s swift action in providing financial assistance to Ganesh’s family is a step in the right direction, but further measures must be taken to ensure justice is served and to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
In light of this incident, there is a pressing need for enhanced security measures and stricter enforcement against illegal activities such as Red Sanders smuggling. Additionally, authorities must prioritize the safety and well-being of law enforcement personnel by providing them with adequate resources, training, and support to carry out their duties effectively. Only through collective efforts and decisive actions can we stem the tide of criminal activities and safeguard the lives of our brave officers like Constable Killed.
