Twinkle Khanna, a well-known Bollywood personality and author, recently shared her funny take on Valentine’s Day in her latest article. She talked about what husbands married for a long time usually gift their wives and shared thoughts on love.
In her column in The Times of India, Twinkle discussed Valentine’s Day, a global celebration. She mentioned famous thought experiments by great thinkers like Plato’s Cave and Occam’s Razor. Using her usual humorous style, she joked about how Valentine’s Day might have started in a medieval board meeting as a solution to declining sales after Christmas. The idea was to get people who were already low on money from buying gifts to buy more gifts with their next paycheck.
Twinkle also quoted philosopher Hannah Arendt, saying that an experience becomes real only when it is expressed. She suggested that despite the consumerism of Valentine’s Day, it may help bring the abstract concept of love to life. However, she humorously pointed out that if you ask women married for over a decade what their husbands gave them on Valentine’s Day, the honest answer might be, ‘As usual, a headache.’
She concluded by expressing her belief that love itself is the greatest thought experiment. Whether or not there are traditional gifts like red roses and cards, acknowledging each other’s imperfections leads to an imperfectly perfect relationship.
Twinkle Khanna and Akshay Kumar, her husband since 2001, are proud parents to Aarav and Nitara, a son and a daughter.
