It was indeed remarkable to see the demeanor of the parents of Colonel B. Santosh Babu who laid down his life for the country at Indo-China Border. They seemed stoic despite the huge loss. Colonel Santosh is survived by his wife, four-year-old son and nine-year-old daughter.
There was a face-off at the Indo-China Border and Commanding Officer Santosh Babu retaliated with his paltan– he died in the conflict along with the two Jawans at the Galwan Valley during de-escalation. Santosh Babu belonged to 16 Bihar Regiment, and along with the Jawans they were serving on the China Border. First time in 50-years there had been serious conflict at the Indo-China Border which is usually peaceful compared to the Indo-Pak border region.
The parents were initially shocked to hear the news about their martyred son. His mother said, “Our daughter-in-law is in Delhi and she was informed last night. We received the news in the afternoon."
His father Upender said, “I am both sad and proud. My son has laid down his life for the country.”He is a retired bank officer and he did not initially believe the news of his son’s death. Santosh is an alumnus of Sainik School. He had served the India Army for 15-years and received many promotions and recognition. He hailed from Suryapet district in Telangana.
