Less Infection in Telangana is Good NewsMay 01, 2020 08:11 PM
In the last couple of days, the numbers of cases are declining in the State of Telangana. The health minister Etala Rajender is not alarmed by the fewer tests. In Telangana, the number of tests is slightly over 19,000. This is in contrast to the 80,000 plus tests conducted in Andhra Pradesh. The chief minister Chandrasekhar Rao is not perturbed by a fewer number of test. On the contrary, he is satisfied with the decrease in cases in the last few days. The figures have considerably reduced, and 27th April Monday showed two cases. This is indeed wonderful news and the Chief Minister is optimistic that Telangana would win the war against Coronavirus.
Director of public health Dr G Srinivasa Rao had corroborated with the health minister as well as the chief minister and confirmed that the tests are conducted following ICMR Indian Council of Medical Research guidelines. Also, the planning is in congruence with the Government of India. The recommendation proposed by the government is followed. Only symptomatic people and primary contacts are undergoing tests.
Etala Rajender had made it explicitly clear that people showing serious signs and symptoms are tested. It is rather counterproductive to tests anyone with cough, fever and cold. This would create unnecessary chaos among people and hordes of patients with common ailments would be lined up in front of the Hospitals and Labs. There is no point in pressing the panic button.
The strategic testing is helping the middle-class and the poor section of the society as there are an inevitable economic slowdown and an impending cash crunch. Therefore it is not wise to spend huge money on tests when not required. Saving money is paramount at this stage.
Currently, Telangana is maintaining an average of 300 tests every day. This is very less when compared to the earlier 1000 tests. There was a steep rise in the number of tests during the Tabliqi fiasco when many people returned from Delhi.Currently, Telangana is maintaining an average of 300 tests every day. Dr Rao had dismissed rumors circulating among media and reporters that Telangana is on a verge of creating Herd immunity from decreasing the number of tests. This is outright false and there is no basis to this sort of hearsay. In fact, there was a proper clarification by Dr Rao that Heard Immunity will go in tandem with the help of a vaccine. Hence Heard Immunity at this stage is impossible. The Government and the health department is quite pragmatic and scientific in dealing with this pandemic. All factors are taken into consideration. This was evident when the Chief Minister decided to stop any imported rapid test kits from China.
