Voila! It’s a humongous success

Kanulu Kanulanu Dochaayante is the 25th movie of Dulquer Salmaan who is also popular with Telugu audience with movies like ‘Ok Bangaram’ and ‘Mahanati’. ‘Pelli Chupulu’ fame ‘Ritu Varma’ played the female lead opposite Dulquer.

Siddarth(Dulquer Salmaan) and his friend Kallis(Rakshan) are habituated to earn easy money by resorting to petty cybercrimes. In this process, Sid falls in love with Meera(Ritu Varma) while his friend Kallis falls for Meera’s friend Shreya(Niranjini). Sid and Kallis decide to start a new life by setting up a hotel in Goa by marrying their respective girlfriends. Then, Sid and Kallis get the shock of their lives when DCP Pratap Simha(Goutham Menon) barges into the resort where they are staying in Goa with his force. This is the interval and the rest of the story unfolds with interesting, entertaining and thrilling twists without missing the fun factor till the end.

Actors Performances

Dulquer Salmaan who excels with effortless acting has once again pulled off his role brilliantly with much ease. He looks so handsome on the screen and certainly lights up the auditorium with his performance and smiles which smite everyone. And he deserves all the praise in selecting a simple but unique script for his 25th film unlike most of the other star heroes who opt to churn out routine stuff to the audience by taking a ride on their nerves in the name of grandeur.

Ritu Varma has got a meaty role in this film after Pelli Choopulu. Apart from looking cute she also charms with her performance. Her onscreen chemistry with Dulquer is very good.

Gautham Menon’s role as a cop leaves you in splits when you come out of the auditorium or even when you watch it online or TV. Anish Kuruvilla's role as a businessman keeps you guessing and he brilliantly carried it off in his own style.

Technical Aspects

Desingu Periyasamy who was a short filmmaker made a very decent directorial debut with this movie. He unfolds his mastery with a gripping screenplay and keeps the film engaging with twists that thrill the viewers from time to time as the movie progresses.

Bhaskaran’s cinematography is an added asset for the film and he presented the vision of the director beautifully. Music by Masala Coffee is good in parts and could have been better because wonderful background music could elevate these kinds of films to the next level. However, the good visuals make it up for the average music in songs. A little bit of trimming here and there in the first twenty minutes in the run-up to the actual plot could have been a better option for the editor. But, overall it is a decent job by the editor. Production values are commendable. Especially the greenery in Kerala, and the spectacular Goa and Delhi give the film a top-notch look.

  • Dulquer Salmaan’s effortless but impressive performance.
  • Ritu Varma’s innocence helped the plot.
  • Interesting Twist
  • Robbery in Anish Kuruvilla’s house
  • Pre-Climax Twist
  • Goutham Menon’s serious but funny reason at the climax

Final Verdict

Kanulu Kanulanu Dochaayante will definitely engage you till the end with twists and turns. It is a clean entertainer which can be watched with families and kids. Seeing the title many think that it is a love story. But love is just a tiny part; there are other surprises in this film. Only after watching it, one realizes why the director chose to title this film after AR Rahman’s popular song ‘Kanulu Kanulanu Dochaayante’ from Maniratnam’s movie ‘Donga Donga’.
