Director Shankar made the heads turn with his debut film ‘Gentleman’. The music, songs, and action scenes in the movie are still spoken in high regard. It was also remade in Hindi with Chiranjeevi in Mahesh Bhatt’s direction. Since then, Shankar kept churning out films on a larger canvass with high budgets. Equally, they also ended up being the huge grossers at the box office both in Tamil and Telugu.

But off late the director who is known for making his films with the highest technical values is not able to repeat his old magic. He started ‘Indian 2’ with actor Kamal Haasan. Both of them worked together in ‘Bharateeyudu’ which released in 1996 became a sensational hit. The story revolved around curbing corruption. Likewise, every movie of Shankar also carries a strong social message.

Unfortunately, ‘Indian 2’ is facing many hurdles since its launch. This movie which is produced by LYCA productions took a while to go on to the sets due to the budget issues. Once the shooting is started, it is again stopped due to the tragic accident. Now again the pandemic has put brakes on its progress. It is not known yet when the movie will resume its shooting.

During the current scenario, the cinema halls are not opened. Many movies are having OTT releases directly. Director Shankar has responded strongly to this situation. He expressed that it is better for him to quit making movies if they are to be released directly on OTT platforms. His pain can be certainly understood, as he is one filmmaker who believes in big screens. And also, the audience also loves to watch them only on large screens because of the scale, technique, settings, sound, and visuals his films carry.
