A complaint is filed in the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) against the trending ‘PataalLok’ web series in Amazon Prime. It is bankrolled by actress and producer Anushka Sharma. The Namsai unit President of All Arunachal Pradesh Gorkha Youth Association (AAPGYA) has filed this complaint. The association also demanded to take legal action against Anushka Sharma.

It is alleged that a ‘Sexist slur’ is used against the Gorkha community in the second episode of the series. The association complained that it is a direct insult to the Nepali speaking people. And also, it asked the Union Ministry of Minority Affairs to intervene in the matter. Further, the BharatiyaGorkhaYuvaParisangh also floated an online petition against the web series.

In the complaint, the Gorkha youth association demanded to ban the web series if the makers don’t mute the dialogue and blur the subtitles of the controversial slur. Besides, it also asked that the team of ‘PataalLok’ should apologize to the Gorkhali people. JaideepAhlawat, NiharikaDutt, Swastika Mukherjee Anindita Bose and etc are portraying the important roles in this Amazon series.

Prosit Roy and AvinashArunDhaware are directing different parts of the web series which was shot in about 110 cities of India. The series is trending now after the telecast of its first episode on 15th May 2020 during the lockdown. Anushka Sharma who made her debut with Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Rab Ne Bana di Jodi’ became one of the top star heroines in Bollywood.

In the past, Anushka produced films like ‘NH5’, ‘Phillauri’ and ‘Pari’. ‘PataalLok’ is her first venture on the OTT platform. Let's hope the issue is solved amicably by both the parties soon, for a hassle-free run of the web series on Amazon.
