From ancient times, honey has been of the utmost benefit for people. It is a sugary substance that helps in the healing of wounds. The syrupy substance comprises bioactive components that promote healing of the wounds. It has a lot of properties and benefits for human use. The pH of honey is acidic that helps in healing. It has a pH between 3.2 and 4.5 which is acidic. The pH facilitates the release of oxygen from the blood when applied to wounds.

Proteases impair the process of wound healing. Acidic pH helps to reduce these substances. Honey has natural sugars that have an osmotic effect. It draws out water from the damaged tissues that reduce swelling. It enables the flow of lymph to the wound. Not just this, the water from the bacterial cells is also drawn out which prevents the multiplication of these cells. It has an anti-bacterial effect. Most of the wounds have bacteria present in them like methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, also called the MRSA. They might also contain Vancomycin-resistant Enterococci (VRE). The resistance to these is due to its osmotic effects.
